I want to know what the movie is about, not from what movie i can recognize people. total waste of my time. This movie explains itself I think. In the scene where The Girlfriend tries to explain the landscape paintings she has made to the father he asks how he knows to feel sad if there is nobody in the painting who looks sad. She asks him to try and picture he is in the landscape, and how looking around at it would make him feel, she asks him to try and feel without being told how. This is a movie without direction, without villains or main characters. The woman has good intentions but pretentious thoughts, the man is hurt and desperate and they end up tearing each other apart for trying to find love. Or do they? That's what I thought when I put myself in the landscape. So as one who looked into the mirror/painting that is this film I ask you to do the same. Without direction without motivation or theme and take something out of it that you and only you can perceive. That is how I understand this film.

The whole movie is jake as an old man visualizing this perfect life in his head when he was younger that he could have had a beautiful woman, romance, happy ending life. In which we all want. He never got it. So In the movie he imagines the whole story. his mom says he is controlling so he is the one who is controlling Lucy in the movie, meaning Lucy is Jakes subconscious. She also has thoughts to herself & jake replies which all ties together that he knows what she is thinking because they are his thoughts. I believe the change of clothes, age of his parents. weirdness of the dog was so random because they wanted to interpret it not being real, make believe. The psychological factor this movie had on me was crazy it wasnt even that interesting i jus had to decode it 😂 She always “thinks about ending things” because that is the symbol of jake ending his life in the end because the life he wanted he never had. They are supposed to be the same person in the movie. Its all in how you interpret the movie it really is jus a metaphor for depression leading to suicide in a movie.

They show him being killed by the janitor when he was younger so did he die when he was young by this janitor and now the janitor, older, is haunted by the student he killed long ago? Or (this is the most likely case) Is this just a representation that Jake is in fact the janitor and the dance showing him killing his younger self and taking the girlfriend away a metaphor for him killing both his younger self and this girlfriend he's come up with in his head and been imagining in his head the whole movie and now accepting his present self and coming to terms with the fact he was unable to accomplish his dreams and instead ended up as a janitor.
